The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office was established in 1837, shortly after the creation of Allegan County. The first sheriff, John R. Williams, was appointed by Governor Stevens T. Mason. The Sheriff's Office has a long and proud history of service to the community, and has played a vital role in the development of Allegan County.

Divisions

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office is divided into several divisions, each responsible for a specific area of law enforcement:

Allegan County Arrest Warrants Search

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office provides an online tool that allows you to search for active arrest warrants in Allegan County, Michigan.

How to Find a Warrant in Allegan County

To search for a warrant in Allegan County, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office website.
  2. Click on the “Warrants” tab at the top of the page.
  3. Enter the first and last name of the person you are searching for in the search fields.
  4. Click on the “Search” button.

The search results will display a list of all active arrest warrants for the person you searched for. The results will include the following information:

  • Name of the person
  • Date of birth
  • Warrant number
  • Issuing agency
  • Charge(s)
  • Bond amount

What to Do If You Have a Warrant

If you have a warrant for your arrest, you should turn yourself in to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible. You can do this by going to the Allegan County Jail at 640 River St. Allegan, MI 49010.

If you are unable to turn yourself in, you should contact the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office at (269) 673-0500 to discuss your options.

Important Information

  • The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office does not issue warrants. Warrants are issued by judges and other authorized officials.

Allegan County Mugshots

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office does not release mugshots to the public. This is in accordance with Michigan law, which prohibits the release of mugshots and other criminal justice records without a court order.

How to Obtain Mugshots

If you need to obtain a mugshot for a specific individual, you can contact the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office and request a copy of the individual’s booking photo. However, the Sheriff’s Office will only release the mugshot if you have a valid legal reason for requesting it, such as if you are an attorney representing the individual or a member of the media.

Availability of Mugshots

Even if you have a valid legal reason for requesting a mugshot, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office may not be able to provide it to you. This is because the Sheriff’s Office is only required to retain mugshots for a certain period of time. After that period of time, the mugshots are destroyed.

Bond Information

Bail is a sum of money that a person accused of a crime must pay to the court in order to be released from jail while awaiting trial. The purpose of bail is to ensure that the person will return to court for their trial.

There are two types of bail:

  • Cash bail: This is a sum of money that the person must pay in full to the court.
  • Surety bond: This is a bond that is issued by a bail bondsman. The bail bondsman will pay the full amount of the bail to the court, and the person will only have to pay the bail bondsman a percentage of the bail amount (usually 10-15%).

How to Post a Bond in Allegan County Sheriff’s Office

If you need to post a bond for someone who has been arrested in Allegan County, you can do so at the Allegan County Jail. The Jail is located at 640 River St. Allegan, MI 49010.

To post a bond, you will need to:

  1. Go to the Jail’s front desk and ask to speak to a bail bondsman.

  2. The bail bondsman will ask you for the following information:

    • Name of the person you are posting bail for
    • Date of birth of the person you are posting bail for
    • Amount of the bail
    • Type of bail (cash or surety bond)
  3. Once the bail bondsman has all of the required information, they will issue you a bond.

  4. You will need to pay the bail bondsman the full amount of the bail (if you are posting a cash bond) or a percentage of the bail amount (if you are posting a surety bond).

  5. Once you have paid the bail bondsman, they will give you a receipt.

  6. You will need to take the receipt to the Jail’s front desk and give it to the jailer.

  7. The jailer will release the person you are posting bail for.

Allegan County Most Wanted

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office maintains a list of the county’s most wanted fugitives. These are individuals who are wanted for serious crimes, such as murder, assault, and robbery.

How to View the Most Wanted List

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted list is available online.

The list includes the following information for each fugitive:

  • Name
  • Photograph
  • Date of birth
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Hair color
  • Eye color
  • Charges
  • Bond amount

Reward

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office offers a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a fugitive on the Most Wanted list.

Sex Offender Registry

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office provides a Sex Offender Registry that allows you to search for registered sex offenders in Allegan County.

How to Search the Sex Offender Registry

To search the Allegan County Sex Offender Registry, follow these steps:
